In the 2014 National Aquaculture Statement, the government and industry developed the National Aquaculture Strategy, which fulfils an election commitment made in the Coalition’s 2013 Policy for a More Competitive and Sustainable Fisheries Sector.
The strategy includes a set of actions that represent a blueprint for the Australian Government, state and NT governments, and the industry to achieve the goal of doubling the value of Australia’s aquaculture industry to $2 billion per year by 2027.
This strategy requires commitment from all sectors, by helping meet the growing demand for seafood nationally and internationally. The development of this strategy involved over 100 stakeholders, including state and NT governments, indigenous committees, research bodies, environmental non-government organisations, and over 60 industry bodies and operators.
